Project Overview
The Challenge
Modern society pressures the education system. Education does not keep pace with society, and the disparity between the two continues to widen. Despite efforts and investments to be abreast of technological advances, preparing learners for their future remains a major challenge, especially in school models and practices dating from the 19th century.
The speed of technology development in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world where the digital environment is collaborative and malleable, paradoxically becomes a barrier for the education system and raises many concerns.
Our Solution
The S'entr'Apprendre project (Intr'Appreneur - meaning "to learn together") creates an educational ecosystem that bridges the gap between education and work. This community learning network promotes personalized education by valuing the contribution of teachers, parents, researchers, learners, entrepreneurs, and other partners to collaborate in the search for decentralized solutions to achieve school autonomy.
Unlike the traditional ego-system, our eco-community embraces universal values and interdependence, requiring collaboration and partnership for all to participate in the economy: Smart Schools → Smart People → Smart Community
Key Objectives
Create an educational environment that bridges the gap between the world of education and the world of work
Ensure genuine inclusive education that promotes professional integration of learners to the new economic reality
Build a community learning network that promotes personalized education through collaboration
Develop digital skills to adapt to a technology-driven economy and Industry 4.0
Research Focus Areas
Examining how innovative learning spaces impact student engagement and 21st century skills development
Providing learners with authentic and meaningful learning situations connected to real-world applications
Strengthening partnerships between schools, businesses, and community stakeholders
Connecting learners to learning and career opportunities through face-to-face, remote, and hybrid training models
Research Team
Led by Dr. Mario Chiasson as Chief Investigator, the S'entr'Apprendre project brings together over 30 researchers from diverse disciplines to examine innovative learning environments and their impact on student success.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Our research team includes educational researchers, system leaders, technology specialists, community partners, and international collaborators working together to transform educational practices and outcomes. Research Methodology
Longitudinal Study Design
The S'entr'Apprendre project employs a longitudinal research design to track student engagement, skill development, and career readiness over multiple years. This approach allows us to understand the long-term impact of innovative learning environments on student outcomes.
Mixed Methods Approach
Our research combines quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights from students, teachers, and community partners. This mixed methods approach provides a comprehensive understanding of how innovative learning environments transform educational experiences.
Community-Based Participatory Research
The project embraces community-based participatory research principles, ensuring that schools, businesses, and community stakeholders are active partners in the research process. This collaborative approach ensures research findings are relevant, actionable, and sustainable.
